Activity

This exercise can help you develop self-awareness, critical thinking skills, and a more nuanced understanding of your teaching practice. By reflecting on a specific incident and analysing your response, you will be able to identify areas for growth and improve your ability to handle similar situations in the future:

  1. Think of a critical incident that you have experienced in your teaching practice such as an event, situation or interaction that challenged you or required you to respond in a particular way. For example, a situation or incident with a pupil or a parent. (Please be specific and detailed in your description)
  2. Describe your response to the incident. What actions did you take? What did you say? What was your thought process in deciding how to respond?
  3. Did you involve anyone else in your response to the incident? Did you seek advice from a colleague or supervisor? Did you communicate with the pupil or pupils/parents involved? If you did involve others, how did this affect the outcome of the incident?
  4. Do you feel that your response was successful in resolving the incident? If not, what could you have done differently? If so, what factors contributed to your success?
  5. What did you learn from the incident and how could you apply this knowledge in the future? What would help you respond more effectively to similar incidents in the future? (Consider different perspectives on the incident)
