Activity 2 - CREATING A CLIL-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT

Step 3 – In primary school CLIL can be introduced in various ways through a supportive learning environment which can include

  1. a gradual introduction of L2;
  2. the use of the languages which are in the pupils’ linguistic repertoires;
  3. activities and techniques to recycle key terms and concepts when learning or dealing with a specific topic;
  4. activities and situations in which pupils can use L2 naturally;
  5. classroom routines.

Go back to the images in activity 1 and say how each image highlights different aspects of CLIL implementation in a primary school. You can use the numbered list above as a checklist.

  1. The daily routine of a primary school class?

Point to be taken into account

Instead of using CLIL in some activities only (e.g. only in L2 language activities) teachers in teams should think of ways to implement CLIL in any daily activity. CLIL thus becomes part of the life of the class.
